About My Drawings
The pencil has long been my favorite tool to work with. It is portable, so you can take it anywhere and in an instant work with it. As a matter of fact, in days past when I traveled a lot for my job, I would spend my evenings in the hotel room working on drawings. It was a nice diversion from the often boring meetings. As you look at the following drawings (more properly called 'graphite renderings') of people you may notice a common theme: the eyes. I am often captivated by a photograph of someone with an intent stare. A particular example of this is the story of the "Indian Face." A few months ago, as I was digging through some old folders I came across a folder of my first art of 1970. In the folder I found a clipping from a newspaper of that year. There were images on both sides, so I am not sure why I cut it out back then. But for certain, one look at the Indian's face convinced me that I had to draw it. And I did. It now hangs in a prominent place where I can see and enjoy it daily.
