Background: This painting is based on a photo I took of Alex in August 2002. We were in her backyard and I saw her standing in the bushes looking out at me, thinking whatever a three year old girl thinks. I had my camera with me and quickly snapped a photograph of her. This painting is based on that photograph. It is called "Mysterious Alex" because of the mystery about what she was thinking or pretending at that moment.
