Artist's Comments on "Silk Road"
Silk Road
represents my first experiment in creating a Post Modern artwork. The irony of
this undertaking is that until the past few months I was vociferously condemning
Post Modern, Abstract, Abstract Expressionist, etc. art works as meaningless and
trivial art. Then I became a convert to Post Modernism. My conversion involves
the influences of the following people:
- Debra Babylon: She taught me most of the really important
things I know about painting and color theory. She also planted the seed of
Modernism within me, although it fell initially on barren intellectual ground.
None-the-less, she respected my desire to reject Post Modernism.
- Jean ?: Jean (I don't know her last name) was a model
for a Life Drawing session at San Diego Art Institute.
(See graphite rendering from session.) During a break we were
discussing some of the Modern art works in the current SDAI show. Her
intellectual and personal comments ignited a feeble flame of illumination on
Modernism within me.
- Lizet Benrey: I met Lizet at SDAI Life Drawing
sessions. In time I got to know her and her art. The beauty of Lizet's
artworks, thoughts and personage inspired me to experiment with Post
Modernism. Her influence was the final step in my epiphany and conversion.
