I recently got active in a long standing interest in fractals and especially the use of fractal images as devices, settings, backgrounds or elements of my paintings. There are two types of fractals I have been exploring, as follows.
As an example of how I have/will use fractals in my art, the UltraFractal image "Field of Stars" (below) was used in my painting "Birth of Athena".
. These are some of the more interesting ones I have created using a shareware program called UltraFractal. It is an excellent program that I highly recommend if you want to generate your own custom fractals.
With careful examination of some of these you can see how the pattern repeats within them, ad infinitum. Specifically, Crescent Moon Spirals, Seven Spirals, Spider Web and Web In Web.

Iterated Function System Generated Images.
In September 2002 I wrote a computer program for generating fractals based on Barnsley's Iterated Function Systems. These fractals are generated using a somewhat different technique that the UltraFractals and produce a rather different style of image. Below are some of the more interesting images I've produced and may one day use in some of my paintings.
