The following poem is somberly dedicated to my very dear friend Lizet Benrey
in her time of  sorrow from a heavy personal burden.

Love's Dark Cost

Lizet looks on with love
And a suffering fright
That the mother of her flesh
Might soon leave the light.

In the salutations she sends
I'm told of her terrible trial.
My hurt hangs heavy for her,
My friend of a long while.

I know all too well
Of love's dark cost
When to Fate's fearsome call
A long loved one is lost.

What words can I
To someone very dear
When Fate's calling hand
Sets to touch so near?

So feeble are any words
That these fly without hope
Of lightening her darkness
Or helping her cope.

Yet meager as they may be
To Lizet these words shall go
So of my considerable caring
She shall be able to know.

Now fly you words
on swift and sure wings
and inform my dear Lizet
of the following things!

"Your anguish I share."
And this more I can say,
"Be certain, my friend,
That for you both I pray."
